Word of the Year 2023

Happy New Year!!

We've been blessed to make it to see a new year...and a new day! How exciting is that news?!?

So one thing I've been doing over the last few years is establishing my word of the year. What that means is I partner with Christ for him to reveal to me where my focus needs to be in all that I do for my business, family and personal life. My process has evolved since this idea was initially shared with me from my very first business coach. Here are the steps I used for 2023...

1) Assess Your Previous Year

What were your wins from 2022 both big and small?

What are you proud of accomplishing and/or overcoming?

What are some lessons you learned?

We aren't going to call them failures because we still learn something in things not going according to plan, and that a win!

So take a moment to review what worked and what areas need improvement or need to be eliminated all together. Mentally is good but writing it down is even better.

2) Prayer

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean NOT on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight. Matthew 3:5-6

I consult Christ in everything and that's where I encourage you to start too. Prayer is simply a conversation I'm having with the Lord so I'm talking AND being silent to leave room to hear His voice too.

3) Pick Your Core Buckets

The key to execution is being organized.

Pick at least 5 core buckets you'd like to focus on. Here are a few popular ones: Health, Family, Parenting, Marriage, Friendships, Business, Ministry, Personal Growth, Finances, Fun, Education (not related to your biz), and the list goes on and on. Customize these buckets according to your lifestyle - there is no right or wrong category.

Once you've determined your categories the fun begins!

4) Set Goals For Each Bucket

It's time to outline your goals. Each category has at least 3 but no more than 5 goals is my recommendation (it's not the law). This makes things attainable and helps you to focus strategy to reach them.

BONUS: If you want to take things a step further you can break down the steps you need to take to reach said goal. I like entering this information into a project manager like ClickUp or Monday.com but I personally use Asana. This adds another layer of accountability for myself because I can set due dates, assign tasks to my assistant to help me or determine prerequisite steps where needed to mark that task as completed.

5) Accountability

Setting goals should be a very intentional process so since you've taken the time to do it, it makes sense to set safeguards to ensure you follow through and don't self-sabotage yourself. Sharing your goals or having an accountability partner statically increases your chances to complete the goal.

This could be your husband, boyfriend, best friend, business bestie or anybody else that will hold space for you so you show up as your best self and crush your God goals.

Well fellow bosses…

I hope this guide was helpful and sparks you to set your God-inspired, organized and clear goals for 2023. You’re not too late to get it done today!

I'm cheering for you and pray that this year you walk in complete obedience so you reach the full potential in what and how God wants to bless you.
